The Grandparent Project is run by the husband and wife team of Shayne (Grandpa Shayne) and Tanda (Grammy) Packer. (See About Us). We are currently writing a book on grandparenting that focuses on technology. We are also creating websites for grandparents and grandchildren. (For more information, please read the project description on the home page.)
We want YOU
This is a “crowdsourced” project. This is a “grandsourced” project. Created by a crowd of grandparents. Created for grandparents. We want you to become a member of our team. This project is a work in progress, a piece of art, a creation. Together, we are inventing something very worthwhile to grandparents. Ideas from the crowd are vital. We would love to have your help!
How you can participate
Please participate in the discussions by commenting on blog posts and taking polls. Polls that are voted up, and ideas that are commented on, become more popular. Please tell us what you like about ideas and suggestions. If you don’t think someone’s idea will work, please kindly say why, and offer alternative suggestions. Play nice :-)

Cool. Great idea! I have several ideas about technology that would be helpful to grandparents. I look forward to participating with the crowd.

Man, what a great idea this is!! I'll be watching (and participating as I can). Here's to your success and all the lives it could potentially impact!

Actually,
I'm not a grandparent. In fact it is that fact that I have kids, that my parents now qualify.
I do have an interest in history and was fascinated by attempts to video and record all accounts of World War II before all of our veterans passed off the stage into history. That made me wonder about my own heritage. I asked my grandparents to record some of their fond childhood memories that my children could relate to, but alas, that didn't happen. So I'm down to know pleading with my parents to do the same thing. Maybe with some technological help the generation before me can do something. Otherwise, I've started taking pictures and video to try to save for generations to enjoy - some of it can be seen at our family blog: http://thekelseys.net
I know that's not exactly what you are doing, but it followed along the same idea of helping a generation that didn't start with this technology to embrace it for the sake of their posterity. So now the thinking wheels are turning.

I am thrilled to see the technology of the Internet being used to strengthen the family. Being a grandparent, for me - is truly the icing on the top of the cake of life. Our grandchildren are growing up in a world of technology, that is so fast - and in many ways could leave the relationships that they should have - in the dust!
Why, if I had not recently joined Facebook, I would not be nearly as well informed on what is going on with the lives of all my children and my grandchildren. I love to read their daily post, see the pictures that they have recently taken and hear all about their lives. This is so wonderful. I can then, in quick and easy response - say hi and comment back. We have come a long way from the days of the telegraph... but certainly it is just an improvement in technology:-)
I look forward to participation here on the Grandparent Project and feel privileged to be a part of such a wonderful collaboration.
Warm Regards

This is really a fantastic idea you have here. I am about to be a first time Grandma and look forward to using your wonderful site as a portal to my Grandbaby. Thank you so much for conceiving the idea. It's very smart of you to ask for input too. I will make sure the word gets!
